Lighting Offices with LED Troffers is Easy, Efficient and an Affordable Solution for Office Building Upgrades

Nobody wants to work in an office building with lighting fixture lenses that are yellowing, cracking and dirty.  “Workers are more productive and happier when lighting is clear and crisp,” was the conclusion drawn by a office building owner in suburban Atlanta.  In the quest to improve  aesthetics, the owner found choosing between all the various types  of  LED troffers &  tubes  the market to be overwhelming.

In fact, when he discovered that the T12’s currently installed were no longer manufactured, he turned to ALB Energy Solutions for advice.  ALB Energy Solutions helped him make cost comparisons to LED fixtures, and he was pleasantly surprised to learn that there was not much difference in installed cost between LED verses retrofitting to T8 fluorescents, especially when considering the lamp and ballast maintenance costs.

“While some LED tubes are cheaper they may be move involved in installing which ends up making them cost more,” said Norah Silva, ALB Energy Solutions consultant.  “The LED fixtures are easier to install. They also are dimmable and work great with occupancy sensors. Keeping the lights off, when the office area is not occupied enhances the overall energy savings”.

In the end, the office building retrofitted 24, 2 Lamp, U Tube F34 T12/T38T12 2 X 2 Fixtures & 60, 4 Lamp, F40 T12/T38 2 X 4 Fixtures with an equivalent number of  LED troffer 2X2 35W 4000K dimmable fixtures.

ALB Energy Solutions handled the installation and removal and recycled the old lamps and fixtures as well. Finally they assisted the customer in filing  for a Georgia Power rebate for energy efficient lighting.

It was a total turnkey solution, which paid off for employees and owner alike.[/vc_column_text][divider color=”#ffffff”][image style=”no-style” position=”below” src=”http://solutions.atlantalightbulbs.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Office.jpg”][list type=”circle”]After: 2 x 2 & 2 x 4 LED Retrofit Fixtures 35w & 52w in 4000k[/list][divider color=”#ffffff”][diagram type=”line” title=”Annual Energy Use Comparison”][skill title=”Previous Annual 44,056 kWh” amount=”100″ color=”#1a5eab”]

[/diagram][divider color=”#ffffff”][list type=”circle”]The advantages of the LED retrofit approach were numerous:

  • Easy to Install: Remote driver enclosure with multiple knockouts for easy access & fast access terminal block for easy thru-wire.
  • Lower Maintenance: long life LED minimizes replacement and maintenance costs, as well as safety concerns associated with employees having accidents while on lifts or ladders.
  • Excellent Color Rendering:  82 CRI provides high quality and consistent color rendering. LED clear, crisp, high CRI light and even beam distribution provides better illumination and fewer shadows for employees.
  • Cold Start:  LED operates from a cold start, enabling energy efficiency when coupled with occupancy sensors.  0-10V dimming is also a standard feature.

Using the EPA’s Greenhouse Gas Equivalencies Calculator, ALB Energy Solutions was able to determine that its recommendations reduced Co2 by 20.9 tons which equated to the annual output of: 4.4 passenger vehicles, or carbon sequestered by 17.2 acres of forests for one year.[/vc_column_text][divider color=”#ffffff”][image style=”no-style” position=”below” src=”http://solutions.atlantalightbulbs.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/CarbonCarTreeBanner_Office.png”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
