LED Parking Lot Lights

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″]LED parking lot lights have become extremely efficient and very cost competitive over the past 2 to 3 years. ALB Energy Solutions has stayed on top of the changing landscape in LED parking lot fixtures. A few years ago our customers asked about the technology and we told them it was very expensive and hard to justify the payback. However with the lumen output on LED fixtures well above 150 lumens per watt we have seen significant payback opportunities for our clients.

Our contractors and facility managers are starting to see the huge value that LED parking lot fixtures bring to the table. Comparing LED parking lot fixtures to traditional metal halide fixtures we have seen as much as a 70% energy savings. When you pair the energy savings with the reduction in maintenance cost and utility rebates, we have seen paybacks in the 1.5 to 2.5 year range which is extremely attractive.

Just recently ALB Energy Solutions partnered up with PHILIPS to offer their extraordinary line of professional luminaries.  Doug Root, CEO said “we are proud to have been chosen by PHILIPS to offer their outstanding line up of fixtures. They have a diverse product offering and we now have the ability to light all types of outdoor areas”.

LED fixtures may appear to be expensive when you just look at the baseline price of the fixture. A good LED parking lot fixture from a reputable manufacturer like CREE or Philips will start in the $3-500 range. Remember as with anything you get what you pay for. We have seen inexpensive fixtures in the $200 range that have great lumen outputs, however the thermal management of the driver and LED packages were concerning. Typically you will see reduced lumens per watt, lower warranty periods and lower grade components with a lower tier manufacturer.

If you are in the market to purchase LED parking lot fixtures be sure to do your homework. These fixtures are a long term investment so make sure you ask a few basic questions:

  • What is the IP rating on the fixture?
  • Is the fixture DLC rated?
  • What is the BUG rating?
  • Is it offered in different TYPE distribution patterns?
  • How long is the warranty on the fixture housing?
  • What if a chip board fails on the fixture, can I easily replace?
  • What kind of driver is in the fixture?

Asking and understanding these simple questions will help you decide if the LED parking lot fixture is right for you. Of course if you need guidance and assistance our ALB Energy Solutions team is here to help. We are a transparent and only bring high quality brand names to the table. We will help you understand what you are purchasing and make sure you know the answers to all these questions and more before you buy.
